WHAT ARE YOUR BASEBOARD OPTIONS AND WHY UPGRADE YOURS

Baseboards are the piece of trim that go along the bottom of the walls to hide the seam between the flooring and wall.

In Las Vegas homes, most standard installed baseboards are only 1.5-2 inches tall, which can cheapen the look of your otherwise beautiful home, so many homeowners choose to upgrade theirs to something taller.

It's also often necessary to redo your baseboards when you're redoing your flooring, since your baseboards were installed based on the height of any flooring (tile, carpet, or vinyl/laminate).  An alternative is to install quarter round (a smaller piece of trim that would go on the bottom of your old baseboards) to hide the gap.

Some homes come with rounded/radius walls, which require Flex Molding. And with most Las Vegas homes having bullnose corners (rounded at the outside corners of the walls only), you have two options when it comes to installation of baseboards:

  1. Some baseboard material comes with pre-made rounded corner pieces you can buy: This is the least favored option since not all bullnose pieces will match your base perfectly, and the cost is quite a bit higher for the materials. Many people also find the look less attractive since the seams are harder for your painter to hide.
  2. The option most of our clients choose is to custom make angled corners (as pictured above): This utilizes scrap cuts of your material (so no extra materials cost) and doesn't increase your install costs either. Your painter can thin fill and caulk the seams to give you a smoother transition between the rounded bullnose corner of the wall and the angle of the baseboard trim. Most people also prefer the look of this option as well.

Ultimately it comes down to your preference: do you prefer angled corners or rounded corners? We can work with whatever you most prefer.

PROBLEMS TO WATCH OUT FOR WITH LAS VEGAS BASEBOARD INSTALLATIONS

Sadly, the industry is saturated with baseboard installers who just don’t do the quality of work you deserve. Here’s what we’re often hired to come in and fix:

  • Visible joints and nail holes (as pictured here): While much of this is taken care of by the painters, some installers just don’t have the attention to detail required for Finish Carpentry, which makes it difficult, time-consuming, or even impossible to hide joints and nail holes.

  • Poor measurements and poorly cut angles (also pictured here): It's surprising how many installers forget to "measure twice, cut once" and wind up running through your materials too quickly, costing you money and time. Knowing how to cut the correct angles between baseboard pieces also ensures you avoid unsightly gaps and locks your material into place better to avoid it loosening over time.

  • Uneven base detail or poor joint placement (also pictured here): Many installers don't know the tricks of the trade when it comes to where to place joints between material pieces (both so that you won't notice them and to avoid shifting or gapping down the road), or how to line up the baseboard details between one piece and the next to avoid a frustrating eyesore.

  • Securing the baseboards properly: The last thing anyone wants is the trim on their walls coming loose. This is especially important if you have heavy traffic, kids, animals, or are in an area where people may bump or kick the baseboards.

  • Attention to details: Knowing how to install your base perfectly around door trim, low outlets or vents, accent walls, cabinets, etc takes a perfectionist’s eye and a lot of experience.

  • Living with the mess for too long: Living in a construction zone can be a headache. Making sure your installers are swift is important, but ensuring they aren’t cutting any corners to get the job done fast is also crucial. (We also make sure to minimize any dust or debris throughout your entire project, as well.)

  • Your Las Vegas baseboard installers ghosting and not finishing the job: This is the most frustrating. If a contractor ever takes your money and disappears before finishing the job to your 100% satisfaction, be sure to file complaints with the NV Contractors Board. Then contact us and we'll help you get it done right.

WHAT WAGNER INSTALLATIONS DOES DIFFERENTLY

I pride myself on a company that is known for doing things differently than all the nightmare contractors you’ve probably heard of (or had the misfortune to work with yourself - let me apologize on behalf of the industry).

Here's how we're different:

  • We are known for minimizing the construction zone so your home isn’t a disaster while we work by working outside, sweeping up inside and out to avoid tracking dust around, laying down floor protectant where needed, and cleaning up as we go.

  • We also ensure your neighbors are happy and we’re not disturbing them either.

  • We do fast work without the common mistakes less experienced (or less caring) installers can make, making sure we leave you with a perfectly finished product (or fixing it for free should it ever not be right).

  • And we work closely with you throughout the process, from talking you through any questions, sharing design ideas, and most definitely making sure you’re happy from start to finish

But most importantly, we are experts in the field of Finish Carpentry.

Meaning you don’t just get it done right; you get it done PERFECTLY and the FIRST time, saving you not only frustrations, but also time and money.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH YOUR LAS VEGAS BASEBOARD INSTALL, START TO FINISH

Wondering what the process looks like, from bid to completion?

First, you give us a call or send an email. I’ll go over your project with you by phone to get a rough idea of what you’re wanting to create in your home or business. I’ll ask you some questions to make sure we're the right people for your job, and answer any you have as well.

Next, I’ll use any measurements you can give me (even rough ones), as well as any photos you might have, to give you a ballpark of what your project would likely cost, barring anything I can’t see over the phone.

If that ballpark sounds good to you, our next step will be to schedule a time to come out to you to get exact measurements and discuss material options with you. I will look for any potential design elements we need to address, can answer any further questions you have, walk you through your options, and use these details to get you an exact cost for your baseboard project.

Your final bid is guaranteed for 30 days and is exactly what you pay, not a penny more (unless there are major changes or additions to the project).

Meaning you’ll know exactly what to budget for your project and won’t get hustled for more.

From there, you make your deposit which will allow me to get your baseboard material ordered and get your install on the schedule with me and my team.

We will give you start and end times each day, will notify your neighbors of how to let us know if there are any issues (like parking or debris that the wind carries into their yard), and I and my small team will arrive on time to install your new baseboards.

We set up our tools outside and get started on your project right away, cleaning up as we go to minimize dust and debris and keep the space safe for us and for you and your family. If we encounter any decisions or concerns along the way, we'll let you know immediately and help you through the decision-making process with expert perspectives.

How long your baseboard installation will take will vary based on the size of your project. The biggest chunk of our time is in setting up. After that the project goes pretty swiftly. To give you an idea of what to expect:

  • A simple 10x10 room takes about 3-4 hours
  • A standard 2000 sq. ft home with all the usually unique angles, corners, and cuts will generally take us anywhere from 3-5 days
  • If you're installing vinyl or laminate flooring as well, because we're already setup and working in the space, that time is reduced

We will give you a custom time estimate for your own baseboard installation when we submit your final bid. (I do like to overestimate this, so that you're never left waiting on us, but we're done ahead of schedule 95% of the time.)

Once the job is complete, we'll do a final walkthrough with you to get your approval and make sure you love everything. The remainder of your invoice is due upon completion of the job.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN YOUR LAS VEGAS BASEBOARD INSTALLATION BID

This is up to you, your budget, and the work you'd like done (vs done yourself), but here’s what we can include:

  • Moving furniture and/or clearing space for the job*
  • The baseboard material and everything needed to install it
  • Careful demo and/or removal of the current baseboards
  • Perfectionist level quality and timely installation of your new baseboards
  • Prep for your painter, if you or they prefer

Some people might have their materials already and we will happily work with them whenever possible. But most people prefer to pick their material out (with our help if you'd like) and have us order it. It’s often cheaper if we do the ordering through our contractor accounts, and we don’t charge any markup for this service. There may be delivery charges to consider from the suppliers though.

We can refer you to a painter if you don’t have one yourself, and we can supply the bid with the paint prep separate from your other baseboard costs if you’re not yet sure you’ll need it; just let us know that's what you'd prefer.

*Although we’re obviously extremely careful, accidents do happen when moving furniture and we are not liable for damage done. It also saves you money if you prefer to do this yourself.

WHERE TO BUY BASEBOARD MATERIALS IN LAS VEGAS

I work directly with wholesalers to get you the best price on materials possible.

When we meet for your final quote, I’ll bring options and ideas for you to choose what you prefer (and can offer my professional opinion based on your space and budget as well).

If you prefer to supply your own material, I’m happy to take a look at it to ensure we can work with it (we usually can).

My favorite baseboard supplier in the Las Vegas area is One Stop Trim Shop. You can go to their showroom and see their baseboard options up close.

We add no additional charges or markup for your materials, ordering, pickup, delivery, etc outside of the suppliers costs.

WHAT IS THE COST OF LAS VEGAS BASEBOARD INSTALLATION?

The cost to install your baseboard installation depends on several variables:

  • The linear footage of the room(s) you'd like to install in
  • The intricacies of your layout or design
  • The type of material needed (this price is set by our wholesale suppliers; we don’t add any markup but prices have changed dramatically since 2020 and are subject to future changes)
  • Whether you'd like us to do your flooring as well

To give you a rough ballpark of what to expect for your baseboard installation services:

  • The price for baseboard materials varies from $1-6 per linear foot
  • Our installation services vary between $4-5/sq ft depending on the material and design
  • So a square 10x10 room for baseboard installation would start at $200
  • For a ballpark on flooring installation, click here. Ask about a discount when you book us for flooring and baseboards together.
